About
Original shimmering melodic
The Hadron Colliders is the project of singer/songwriter Arun Kendall and influenced by iconic bands such as The Cure, The Underground Lovers, The Church, The Jesus and Mary Chain, REM and The Go-Betweens. The songs have been described as sounding like a mix of The Cure, The Church, Nick Cave, Bob Dylan and even Pink Floyd meeting The Velvet Underground.
Formed in Sydney with members based in Sydney and Hobart, The Hadron Colliders are currently taking time to work on new material.
The songs are strong on melody, placing equal importance on lyrics and layered instrumentation. Live, the band has played at iconic Sydney venues, including the Annandale Hotel, the Petersham Bowling Club, Lazybones Lounge and the Union. In June 2017, the band played in Hobart, Tasmania during the legendary Dark Mofo Festival at Grimoire 2017 at the Brisbane Hotel.
In 2015, The Hadron Colliders released its debut EP entitled “Measuring the Space between Us All” through Sydney label Interstellar Records. Covering themes of isolation – both geographical and personal - travel and exploration, fleeting and distant connections, the EP reflects on an unsettled ever-changing world, delivering a melodic, shimmering sound that typifies The Hadron Colliders.
Sheffield based UK culture webzine, Backseat Mafia, described the EP as:
...soulful indie... gentle indie pop...fragile, constructed melodies and (a) sort of melancholy sweetness Backseat Mafia (Sheffield, UK)
On premiering the video for the single ‘Bellwether’, the magazine commented:
It’s classic indie-pop, landing as it does with those gorgeous echoey twisting guitar lines and overriding sense of melancholy, inhabiting a land between Sarah and Flying Nun – high praise indeed.
Cult webzine I-94 Bar described the EP as ‘sexy’ and ‘…a crushing, lovely boat trip down a brooding romance-laden river...Arun Kendall (formerly of The Last Metro) is clearly a unique talent and this record is sexy as all get-out...'
Italian webzine Shiver wrote:
In questo E.P. tutto è al suo giusto posto, dalla scelta della tracklist (“Swallows and Amazons” è un’ottima apertura, con “Cherry Blossom Girl” come chiusura) alla scelta melodica, dalla copertina al minutaggio. (In this E.P. everything is in its right place, from the choice of the track list (“Swallows and Amazons” is a good opening, with “Cherry Blossom Girl “as closing ), the great melodies, from the cover to the playing time.)
Songs from the EP have also been played on radio across Australia.
The name of the band itself evokes a world of mystery and exploration: referencing one of science’s greatest experiments, the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland designed to discover the building blocks of the universe.
Members:
Arun Kendall - vocals, guitars, bass and keyboards
Alejo Agustín Alvarez - drums
